Bundles are not there to make you save money, they exist to make you spend more. Spending $300 dollars per plugin really shouldn't make you feel lousier than spending 10K to get god knows how many plugins for god knows what use. Point is, if your primary goal is to save money, figure out the plugins you actually really want/need and buy those. And, at the end of the day, you'd have spent more money that you were initially planning in both situations - this is not what I would call saving money. Now if you never or very rarely put those 10 extra plugins to use, you just basically threw $500 out of the window. Now sometimes, this can be a great deal for customers too - instead of spending 1K to get, say 10 plugins, if you can spend $500 more to get 10 more plugins, most of which you actually have an interest for and will end up putting them to use, it's a win-win situation. Manufacturers bundle plugins because it increases sales, that is, it makes customers to spend more money than they would have otherwise. It seems to me as you don't actually need/want to own absolutely every single UAD plugin but rather that your main concern is buying plugins at the best overall price/overall number of plugs ratio, thinking that you'll actually save the most money this way but seriously, you're only going to spend more money. The above mentioned serial “trick” works very well with this unit. It was the first ITB compressor i fell in love with. That said, the C165a sounds amazing in its own right. I can say that I have some 160 plugins that 160 owners claim are excellent models, and the C165a doesn’t sound like those plugins. It´s so worth the effort and the price is a steal anyway I won’t comment on how close the SKnote C165a sounds to a DBX160 (either), because it’s not modelled after them, and I’ve never owned a real one. The first one is set as a limiter, the second one does the compression. I love to do the old studio serial compression 'trick' with them. They are transparent in a good way and they are so dynamically working. The Sknote c165 is awesome and greatly tweakable. I compared it to other 160/5 dbx-style compressors (I don´t want to name which, cause I do like the companies much) and man, they blew the competitors away in a second.
